The measuring mandrels for oboe and bassoon are made of hardened tool-steel.
The top side of the measuring mandrel has a scale with 5 mm divisions. The mandrels above and below are spherical. This enables precision measuring of gouged canes and attached reeds without damaging them. The dial indicator for clarinets has a mm division.
